BA management resolves hardens over strike

British Airways have turned up the pressure on Unite the trade union association and BA staff who are planning strike action. BA have said that if a strike takes place, contingency plans have been set up whereby a 1,000 volunteer crew will have been trained by next week bringing the total to 6,000.

In addition to this, it is expected most of the cabin crew at Gatwick will work normally and BA are confident that less than 30% of flights will be affected by the strike. Unite need to give notice by 15th March for the strike to go ahead on 22nd March during the important Easter period.

They also warned that whatever happened the reduction from 14 to 13 staff on its long haul flights was here to stay and this was now set in stone. They also went to point out that any losses arising from strike action will have to come from somewhere and that this may mean further staff cuts.

They pointed out that they were looking to resolve the strike but their meetings with the Union so far had been limited to less than 3 hours due to internal wrangling within the Union between the British Airlines Stewards, the Stewardess Association and the Cabin Crew 89 group.

A Unite spokesman has refuted this claim.
